The Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) is a financial aid program that can make it easier for students and families to afford college or university.
The program offers funding for school through two kinds of assistance:
- Grants: money you don’t have to pay back
- Student loan: money you need to repay
Funding is available for both full and part-time postsecondary students, and is based on a number of factors, including your family income.
For the loan portion, there are also programs to help you repay your student loan once you’re done school.
Who can get OSAP
OSAP is open to Ontario residents who are:

- Permanent Residents, or

How to apply for Continuation of Interest-Free Status:
There are two ways to apply for CIFS:
- Online – By logging into your OSAP account online and submitting the new CIFS web-based application
- On paper – using the new Continuation of Interest-Free Status Application
Students are encouraged to apply online, as it is much faster than applying on paper. Students can also check the status of their application online.
Important Note: The CIFS can be completed 15 days prior to the study period start date per the OSAP website.
